Leveling The Playing Field
Hello, you!
And hello, October. Whether it’s a tour of NFL head coach turned broadcaster Mike Tomlin’s Minecraft city (yes, seriously) or this weekend’s packed sports calendar, cozy season is overflowing with content to watch. Grab a blanket, settle in, and scroll on.
WNBA playoffs
🏀 Stressed is desserts spelled backwards

The GIST: If you need us this weekend, don’t — the WNBA playoffs are occupying every brain cell. After an adrenaline-pumping Game 3 last night, another series-deciding tilt looms tonight before the best-of-five second round tips off on Sunday. It’s all hoops, all the time.
🃏 Las Vegas Aces eliminate Indiana Fever: A’ja Wilson is all about the moment. The Aces icon authored a 36-point, 10-rebound masterpiece in last night’s 94–83 series-clinching dub. But not even the unprecedented four-time MVP wins alone: Chelsea Gray’s clutch buckets down the stretch sealed the deal to help Vegas advance to their eighth straight semifinal.
- ⬇️ Now, the Aces await the victor of tonight’s 9 p.m. ET win-or-go-home Game 3…
💜 Golden State Valkyries vs. 🪽 Dallas Wings: Golden State couldn’t miss in Game 1, then Dallas impressed from three in the sequel: Powered by Arike Ogunbowale’s hot hand, the Wings shot 52% from beyond the arc, the best mark vs. the defense-driven Valks this season. Back in Ballhalla, watch for the Valkyries to lean into their identity, while the Wings aim to rinse and repeat.
💭 Atlanta Dream vs. 🗽 NY Liberty — Game 1 on Sunday : The Dream are in uncharted territory after winning a first-round series for the first time since 2018. As expected, 2026 Defensive Player of the Year Angel Reese elevated this star-studded roster. But the Liberty’s championship pedigree is impossible to ignore, and Breanna Stewart’s been hooping. Instant classic, loading.
MLB Playoffs
⚾ A whole new ballgame

The GIST: Three Wild Card (WC) sweeps and one three-game rivalry WC showdown later, the best-of-five Divisional Series are officially set. Here’s what to expect with four Game 1s on deck tomorrow. Nothing like October, baby.
🍑 Atlanta Braves oust Philadelphia Phillies with 6–2 Game 3 win: Atlanta pitchers Ray Kerr (3.1 scoreless innings) and Grant Holmes (two innings, one run) made quite the first impression last night, keeping the powerful Phillies bats at bay while making their postseason debuts. No nerves here.
- 💙 Next up, the two-time defending champ LA Dodgers, starting tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET. Though Atlanta went 5-1 against LA during the regular season, Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers feel inevitable in the playoffs.
🧦🛡️ Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians meet in divisional battle: The Guards beat out the White Sox by just one game to snag the American League Central crown, but Chicago enters with momentum having just demolished the Houston Astros in the WC. Plus, the White Sox have higher powers on their side as this series begins tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET
🍎🌴 NY Yankees face Tampa Bay Rays in American League East clash: Another divisional showdown, the Yanks’ offense looks downright terrifying as they head south to take on the equally electrifying Rays tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. ET. NY is hoping injured slugger Aaron Judge returns to the lineup, while Tampa will counter with a bopper of their own, outfielder Junior Caminero.
🤎🍻 San Diego Padres roll in WC, advance to face top-seeded Milwaukee Brewers: As expected, the San Diego pitching staff shut it down, holding the MLB–leading Chicago Cubs’ offense to just one run across two games. But the Brew Crew also boast lockdown hurlers: namely National League Cy Young frontrunner Jacob Misiorowski, who starts Game 1 tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. ET.

🎓🏈 NCAA football: No. 5 Ohio State vs. No. 14 Iowa — Tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. ET — CBS
- Fresh off a last-second Hail Mary win, the Hawkeyes will be aiming for another Big Ten dub taking on the one-loss Buckeyes. Ohio State has dominated the recent meetings, but lost by 28 the last time they played Iowa at home in 2017.
⚽ International friendly: USMNT vs. Mexico — Tomorrow at 10 p.m. ET — TNT/HBO Max
- Expect a very unfriendly match when these perennial rivals face off in Arizona. The U.S. has soared in both friendlies leading up to this game, outscoring opponents 8–3 with a youthful lineup. Mexico, meanwhile, has played to two 1–1 draws under a new head coach.
🏎️ Formula 1: Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia — Sunday at 3 a.m. ET — Apple TV/ESPN
- Yes, that’s the relocated event’s real name. It doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but on the track, it’s all flow: There’s plenty of places to overtake over the 5.5-km circuit, promising an action-packed 56 laps with vital World Drivers’ Championship points on the line.
🏈 NFL: LA Rams vs. Philadelphia Eagles — Sunday at 1 p.m. ET — FOX
- The two NFC heavyweights are both coming off a loss last week and looking to right the ship ASAP. The return of controversial All-Pro wide receiver Puka Nacua provides a big boost to the Rams offense and should worry an Eagles secondary that’s been a liability all season.
- Want to start your NFL Sunday even earlier? The Indianapolis Colts and Washington Commanders kick off from London Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET, with all eyes on quarterback Jayden Daniels’ potential return following a scary elbow dislocation in Week 2.
⚽ NWSL: Angel City FC vs. Gotham FC — Sunday at 1 p.m. ET — ABC
- An undefeated September helped Angel City jump into the eight-team playoff picture, but keeping that streak into October will be easier said than done against top-seeded Gotham. The Bats have only lost once in 14 games.
October is among the best sports months. Which of the following are you most looking forward to?
